Bike title goes to Bathurst rider

A New South Wales rider has won the Finke Desert Race for the bikes in Central Australia.

Ben Grabham was cheered as he crossed finish line in Alice Springs on one wheel punching the air.

The 25 year old from Bathurst was first off the line at Finke, and managed to extend his lead over last year's King of the Desert, Alice Springs rider Ryan Branford, during the 230 kilometre return leg.

Grabham says it was an emotional last kilometre.

"I think I rate this as my best I was nearly in tears riding down those last few corners," he said.

"I'm wrapped South Australian driving team Hayden Bentley and Ben Chivell won the car section of the race this morning."
