Interstate teams storm podium in Finke Desert Race

Interstate competitors have been the first three cars over the finish line in Alice Springs in the 32nd Finke Desert Race.

The champagne is flowing for South Australian driving team Hayden Bentley and Ben Chivell who were first over the line with minutes to spare.

They sealed the King of the Desert title and 10-thousand-dollars prize money with an even faster time of two hours, three minutes and 10 seconds on the return leg from Finke.

Bentley says he is ecstatic about the result.

"we could have probably pushed it a little bit harder," he said.

"It was a bit hard to know whether there was anyone behind us or not so we just kept pedalling what we thought was a good pace and we're happy with everything."

Second across the line was single buggy driver Brad Prout from New South Wales.

Husband and wife team Buddy and Kerry Crowe also from NSW, were third.
