| Thursday, 7 June 2007. 16:04 (ACST) Court hears Pine Gap defendants asked permission to enterThe trial of four people charged with trespassing at the Pine Gap Joint Defence Facility in central Australia has heard the group wrote to the then Defence Minister asking permission to "inspect the base". A police interview with one of the defendants, Bryan Law, has been played to the Supreme Court in Alice Springs. He told police the base carried out terrorist attacks against civilians and his group, Christians Against All Terrorism, tried to request permission from Senator Robert Hill, to enter it. He said after being refused permission, the group, travelled to Alice Springs to inspect the facility in December 2005. In the interview played to the court, Bryan Law also described how the group made it to the base. He told police they set off at midnight on December 8, from a main road and walked to the facility through thick scrub, before splitting into two groups. He said security drove past them as they were walking the last 200 metres to the base, but they weren't stopped until he began cutting the perimeter fence with boltcutters.
