R U OK? DAY FOUNDER AWARDED AUSTRALIA DAY MEDAL
Gavin Larkin has been awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia in recognition of his endeavours to end suicide in Australia.
Mr Larkin, who was profiled on Australian Story last September, founded R U OK? Day - a national day of action which aims to reduce Australia's high suicide rate by encouraging people to start a conversation with anyone who might be doing it tough.
Mr Larkin passed away 10 days after appearing on Australian Story after being diagnosed with an aggressive lymphoma in early 2010.
His widow Maryanne Larkin says: 'He was determined to do something about our national suicide rate and worked tirelessly throughout his illness. Our children – Gus, Josie and Van – are also proud, but we wish he was still here with us today and every day.'
