Just days before its semi final series kicks off, the National Rugby League is facing a new betting scandal. Police are investigating at least one match last month when punters plunged an unusually large amount on who would score first points. Now there are reports another five matches are likely to be investigated. One of Australia's biggest bookmakers has told AM the NRL needs to set up something like a racing stewards body to police betting on the sport. More

Just a month out from the Commonwealth Games, the outbreak of Dengue fever in New Delhi is worsening. Exacerbated by waterlogged construction sites, and by striking fumigators, the mosquito-borne disease is on the increase with dozens of new cases reported in the last few days. The monsoon rains are likely to hang around, possibly even into October when the Games start. More

Britain's Parliament, police, the press and one of the Prime Minister's most trusted advisers have all been caught up in an alleged phone hacking scandal. British Labour MPs have demanded police reopen the investigation into alleged phone-hacking by reporters of the tabloid News of the World newspaper. Claims were made last year that journalists had hacked the phones of several thousand celebrities, sports stars and politicians. The conservative coalition Government has been pressed on allegations its director of communications, Andy Coulson knew phone-tapping was going on at the newspaper when he was its editor. More

It's taken years, but finally Australia has a pineapple it can call its own. Up until now the pineapples Australians have eaten have been derived from plants brought in from overseas. Now Australian scientists have bred the first true blue Australian pineapple and it has twice the vitamin C as regular varieties. More
